17.32.010 – Purpose

This Historic Preservation Ordinance is established for the purposes of:

  1. Fostering awareness and appreciation among the citizens of the City of St. Charles of the unique history of the City embodied in its architecture and historic sites.
  2. Providing a mechanism to identify and preserve the distinctive historic architectural areas and structures that are significant to the City’s history.
  3. Protecting and increasing the value of property within the historic areas of the City of St. Charles and those sites designated as landmarks.
  4. Encouraging preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the City’s buildings. E. Ensuring that the economic benefits resulting from preservation are available to the citizens of St. Charles.
